Rangers Chase Anderson Designated For Assignment

Chase Anderson DFA'd by Texas Rangers

Anderson Removed from 40-Man Roster

The Texas Rangers have designated right-handed pitcher Chase Anderson for assignment, the team announced on Wednesday. The move comes as the Rangers look to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for other moves, such as the potential addition of a free agent or a trade.

Anderson's Tenure with Rangers Ends

Anderson, 34, joined the Rangers on a one-year, $2.5 million contract in March 2022. He made 25 starts for the Rangers, posting a 4-7 record with a 4.93 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. Anderson was designated for assignment in September 2022 to make room for the activation of pitcher Spencer Howard from the injured list.

In his career, Anderson has a 74-77 record with a 4.18 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. He has pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, and Rangers.

DFA Process and Timeline

When a player is designated for assignment, they are removed from the team's 40-man roster and placed on waivers. Other teams then have 10 days to claim the player. If the player is not claimed, they can be sent to the minor leagues or released.

In Anderson's case, he is likely to be claimed by another team, given his experience and recent performance. If he is not claimed, he could opt to accept an assignment to the minor leagues or become a free agent.

Rangers Roster Outlook

With Anderson's departure, the Rangers now have one open spot on their 40-man roster. The team is expected to be active in the free agent and trade markets this offseason, so it is possible that they will use the open roster spot to add another player.

The Rangers are coming off a disappointing 2022 season, finishing with a 68-94 record. The team is hoping to improve in 2023 and contend for a playoff berth.
