Angels Star Headed to Los Angeles

Ohtani to Fill Designated Hitter, Starting Pitcher Roles

Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired two-way star Shohei Ohtani from the Los Angeles Angels in a blockbuster trade. The move, which was announced on Monday, brings one of the most dynamic players in baseball to Los Angeles.

Ohtani will fill both the designated hitter and starting pitcher roles for the Dodgers. The 28-year-old is a former AL MVP and has been one of the most dominant players in the league in recent seasons. In 2021, he hit 46 home runs and stole 26 bases while also going 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA on the mound.

The Dodgers have been in need of a designated hitter since the departure of Corey Seager in free agency. Ohtani provides them with a powerful bat that can help them score runs in bunches. He also gives them another top-of-the-rotation starter to complement Walker Buehler and Julio Urias.

The Angels, meanwhile, receive a package of prospects in return for Ohtani. The deal includes outfielder Andy Pages, pitcher Ryan Pepiot, and infielder Luis Rengifo. The Angels are hoping that these prospects can help them rebuild their team and return to contention in the near future.
